Data Retention Policy

Last updated: September 11, 2026

This page explains, specifically, how long Evernest keeps different kinds of data after you delete it — matching what our systems actually do, not just a general statement of intent.

Deleted Memories

When you delete a memory, it moves to Recently Deleted (Settings → Privacy & Account Control → Recently Deleted) for 30 days. During that window you can restore it. After 30 days, it's permanently removed, including its photos, videos, and voice recordings, and cannot be recovered.

Deleting Your Account

When you delete your Evernest account:

  • Your memories and any Echo (time-locked message) you scheduled but hadn't yet delivered are made inaccessible immediately — this happens as part of the deletion request itself, not later.
  • An Echo that had already been delivered to a family member before you deleted your account is not affected by your deletion.
  • Your account and the data above are then permanently removed within a short time afterward (our internal cleanup job runs at least daily). In the rare case where you're still the anchor for an Echo that was already delivered to someone else, your account information is anonymized instead of deleted outright, so that delivered Echo can remain with its recipient.
  • Your subscription is canceled and any unused Guest Passes are forfeited.

The full, itemized list of what happens to your Family Circle, Collections, and guest contributions is shown to you before you confirm account deletion.

Data Exports

A data export you request (Settings → Privacy & Account Control → Download My Data) remains available to download for 7 days after it's ready, then expires. You can request a fresh one at any time.

Guest Contributions

If a Guest Memory Collection organizer declines a guest's contribution, it's kept for 30 days (in case the organizer changes their mind) and then permanently removed.

Operational Logs

Application logs used for operating and securing Evernest (not your memory content) are retained for up to 14 days and then automatically discarded.
